Products and materials
PVC bathroom wall panels are rigid waterproof boards designed for bathroom walls, shower areas and wet rooms. They give you a smooth, grout free finish and are usually much quicker to install than traditional tiles.
At Bathroom Panels Direct, we supply a wide range of PVC bathroom wall panels, wet wall panels and shower panels in marble effect, tile effect, sparkle and stone inspired finishes.
Tiles are fitted one by one and rely on grout joints between each tile. Bathroom wall panels cover a much larger area in one go and use tongue and groove joints instead.
This means fewer joints, no grout to clean and a much faster installation in most bathrooms and shower spaces.
For many bathrooms, yes. Bathroom wall panels are quicker to fit, easier to clean and do not need grout.
They are a popular choice for shower areas and full bathroom renovations because they provide a waterproof finish with less ongoing maintenance than tiles.
PVC bathroom wall panels are waterproof, grout free, easy to clean and much quicker to install than traditional tiles.
They are also mould resistant, low maintenance and available in a wide range of finishes including marble effect, tile effect, stone effect and sparkle designs.
Yes. Our PVC bathroom wall panels are fully waterproof when fitted correctly using suitable trims, adhesive and sealant. They are designed for use in showers, around baths and in other wet areas.
The PVC surface itself is water resistant, and when installed properly the joint system and sealant help stop water reaching the wall behind.
Yes. Our wall panels are Class 1 fire rated for surface spread of flame, making them suitable for domestic bathroom walls when fitted and used in line with our guidance.
They are not a replacement for specialist fire protection systems where these are required by building regulations.
Yes. The PVC surface is non porous and mould resistant, which makes it much harder for mould to take hold compared with bare plaster or grout lines.
Good ventilation is still important in any bathroom, but PVC wall panels make day to day cleaning and mould control much easier.
PVC bathroom wall panels are designed to last for many years when they are fitted correctly and looked after properly.
In normal domestic use, they offer a long lasting waterproof finish that is easy to maintain and far less prone to issues caused by cracked grout or water getting behind tiles.
Measuring and how many panels you need
Measure the width and height of each wall you plan to cover. If you are panelling above a bath or inside a shower area, measure from the top of the bath or shower tray to the height you want the panels to finish.
Make a note of each wall width and divide it by the panel width shown on the product page to get a rough panel count for that wall.
As a guide, take the width of each wall in millimetres and divide it by the panel width in millimetres. Always round up to the next full panel.
We recommend ordering at least one extra panel where possible to allow for cuts, offcuts and pattern matching.
Yes. If you are unsure, contact us with your room sizes and a simple sketch and we can help you work out a sensible panel quantity.
This is especially helpful for larger bathrooms, shower enclosures and rooms with awkward shapes or returns.
Installation and fitting
Yes. In many bathrooms, PVC wall panels can be fitted directly over existing tiles as long as the tiled surface is secure, clean, dry and reasonably flat.
Any loose or hollow tiles should be fixed or removed before installation.
We recommend using a quality high grab panel adhesive that is suitable for PVC bathroom wall panels and wet wall panels, such as Soudal GripAll.
The adhesive listed or recommended on our website will be suitable for normal domestic panel installations.
Yes. We strongly recommend using trims. Internal corners, external corners, end caps and starter trims all help create a neat finish and support a watertight installation.
Trims also protect exposed panel edges from knocks and wear.
Many customers with basic DIY skills fit bathroom wall panels themselves, especially in simple rooms with straight walls.
If your bathroom has difficult cuts, uneven walls or a more complex layout, a professional fitter may be the better choice.
Bathroom wall panels can usually be cut with any fine toothed blade. Many installers use a jigsaw, circular saw or multi tool depending on the cut required.
Always support the panel properly, mark your cut line clearly and wear suitable safety equipment.
Mould, damp and ventilation
Panels do not remove the cause of mould on their own, but they do help. PVC bathroom wall panels have a non porous surface, so condensation sits on the face of the panel rather than soaking in.
This makes it much easier to wipe away moisture before mould has a chance to grow.
In most bathrooms, mould returns because the room stays damp for too long. Common causes include poor ventilation, weak extractor fans, cold walls and frequent steam from showers.
Waterproof wall panels make cleaning easier, but good ventilation is still essential.
The PVC face of the panel does not absorb moisture, so it will not go mouldy in the same way as grout or bare plaster.
The main area to keep an eye on is the silicone line at the bottom of the panels. Keeping this clean and using a good quality sanitary silicone will help it stay fresh for longer.
Waterproofing and performance
For many customers, yes. Shower wall panels give you a large waterproof surface with far fewer joints than tiles and no grout to crack or discolour.
That makes them easier to keep clean and easier to maintain over time.
In a typical domestic bathroom with sound walls, correctly installed panels, trims and sealant provide a waterproof finish on their own.
In older properties or more demanding wet room settings, your fitter may choose to use waterproof boards or extra protection behind the panels for added reassurance.

Yes. Our PVC bathroom wall panels come with a 5 year guarantee against manufacturing defects when they are installed and used correctly in normal domestic conditions.
The guarantee does not cover incorrect installation, misuse, impact damage or problems caused by other building issues.
Care, cleaning and maintenance
In most cases, a soft cloth or sponge and warm soapy water is all you need.
Avoid abrasive pads and harsh or solvent based cleaners, as these can scratch or dull the surface over time.
We do not recommend using neat bleach directly on the panels.
If you use a mild bathroom cleaner that contains bleach, follow the instructions carefully, test it on a small area first and rinse thoroughly afterwards.
Our PVC bathroom wall panels are designed to keep their colour and finish for many years. They all have enhanced UV protection as standard.
Prolonged exposure to very strong direct sunlight or harsh chemicals can shorten the life of any decorative surface, so gentle cleaning and normal indoor conditions are always recommended.
